The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) will study data on the cost of a number of packages for food products, the service said on January 15.

"The service will study data on the cost of carton packaging for chicken eggs and table salt, combined packaging for dairy products, food and laminated foil, corrugated cardboard, as well as greaseproof food paper," the antimonopoly body explained.

FAS of Russia requested information on production and sales of the products, production costs, as well as detailed explanations regarding pricing. The agency will analyze the information received and assess the impact of the cost of packaging on the cost of products for the end consumer.

In case the analysis reveals signs of violations of antimonopoly legislation, the FAS of Russia will take appropriate response measures.

The Service controls pricing of socially important products at all stages of the distribution chain. Earlier the agency initiated an analysis of the validity of wholesale prices of manufacturers of a number of food products, analysis of pricing for socially important products in the largest retail chains, as well as analyzing the impact of logistics costs on the final cost of products.

In November last year it became known that the Prosecutor General's Office and the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) were asked to check the validity of potato pricing in retail chains.
