US Treasury releases new package of anti-Russian sanctions
The US authorities have expanded the sanctions list against Russia, the list includes 16 individuals and dozens of companies. This was announced on January 15 on the website of the U.S. Ministry of Finance.
In addition, under the restrictions were JSC "Voentorg", Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (NPP), exhibition center "Patriot" and the Central Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering in Korolev.
Restrictions were also imposed against a number of foreign nationals.
Earlier, on January 10, the authorities in Washington and London expanded sanctions against Russia: Gazprom Neft and its head Alexander Dyukov, Surgutneftegaz, Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev, as well as 100 Russian tankers were added to the list. Reacting to this, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Izvestia that U.S. President Joe Biden thus intends "not to leave a mark in history," but "only to leave a legacy" before his departure.
Western countries increased sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
