The Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation and the Military and Social Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense have created a unified mechanism of action to search for missing servicemen. This was announced on January 15 by Deputy Minister of Defense, chairman of the foundation Anna Tsivileva.

"Today the search for missing heroes requires special attention. The Foundation "Defenders of the Fatherland" and the Military and Social Center of the Ministry of Defense have already developed a single mechanism of coordinated actions to address this issue," she said at a meeting of the organizing committee "Victory", which was held by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As Tsivileva specified, this work is carried out in close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Investigative Committee and relatives of the soldiers.

She also noted that the presidential decree on monthly social payments to children of missing participants of the special operation became an important support from the state.

To date, the "Defenders of the Fatherland" fund has received 1 million 960 thousand applications from veterans of special operations, Tsivileva reported. Already 91% of applications have been solved, the rest are in the works.

At the same time, the Deputy Minister noted that 60% of veterans remain to work in the perimeter of the Ministry of Defense, and those who decide to demobilize, get new specialties.

Earlier, on December 26, 2024, Putin signed a decree on monthly payments to children of military personnel captured or missing, including during participation in a special military operation. Putin instructed to speed up the adoption of the relevant decision on December 19 during the "Results of the Year".

Prior to that, on December 16, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov instructed to create a comprehensive system for searching for missing military personnel and supporting their families. He called for an approach that includes improving legislation, establishing order in procedures and joining forces with volunteers.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
