Putin appoints Alexei Solomatin as Russian ambassador to Algeria
Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Russian Ambassador to Algeria Alexei Solomatin. This is evidenced on January 15 by a decree posted on the website of the official publication of legal acts.
"To appoint Alexei Vladimirovich Solomatin as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria," the document reads.
Alexei Solomatin from March 2013 to August 2018 was the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the state of Kuwait. Since 2018, he held the position of Deputy Director of the Department of the Middle East and North Africa of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Previously, the post of Russian Ambassador to Algeria was held by Valeryan Shuvaev, who died in July 2024 at the age of 69.
