The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have lost more than 220 soldiers in the Kursk region over the past 24 hours. This was reported in the Russian Defense Ministry on January 15.

"Over the day the losses of the AFU amounted to more than 220 servicemen, two tanks, two armored personnel carriers, five armored combat vehicles, six vehicles, two artillery pieces and four mortars were destroyed," the ministry said.

The Defense Ministry specified that the units of the "North" group of troops defeated the formations of the tank, five mechanized, two airborne assault brigades and three brigades of the enemy's territorial defense in the area of 12 settlements in the region.

In the area of 14 settlements in the Kursk region and five in the Sumy region, the Russian army hit the AFU's manpower and equipment.

Earlier in the day, Izvestia showed the work of Russian servicemen of the "Press" group of the Akhmat special forces, who continue to destroy military equipment and infantry of the AFU in the border area of the Kursk region.

The Ukrainian military attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
