US President-elect Donald Trump does not care about the European Union (EU), which is currently in crisis. This was stated by former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl in an interview with pranksters Vovan and Lex (real names - Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov) on January 15.

She expressed confidence that the politician is wise enough to focus on the problems of the United States after coming to power. He will seek to reduce the budget deficit, much attention will be paid to technological superiority, as well as reforming society, the former Austrian foreign minister said.

"Europe is going through a recession now, it is not that interesting partner (for Trump. - Ed.). And from the point of view of Washington, the White House, as far as I understand from my observations, they did not always talk about Europe. They said 'Europeans' because they always realized that there is no Europe," Kneissl said in the interview.

She also shared with Vovan and Lexus the risks of a crisis that is escalating in Europe.

"Right now Germany is in recession, in a deep social crisis. And whoever becomes the new chancellor, he will have to coordinate at least three parties in the government, or even maybe four. <...> And a country like France is in a more serious economic situation today than Greece. And all this is connected with very unclear elections," she said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on January 14 that it was necessary to closely observe the ways in which Trump would "make America even greater." He emphasized that the U.S. seeks to get rid of competitors in every sphere. Lavrov cited the destruction of the European Union's energy prosperity through undermining pipelines as an example.

On December 20, 2024, Trump threatened the EU with increased import duties in case the association does not increase purchases of American energy resources.

Before that, in November, The Washington Post reported that the trade duties, which Trump is going to introduce, could cause serious damage to the EU countries. It is specified that large European economies at the current moment are already lagging behind the United States as a result of the pandemic. According to economists, "protectionist measures of Trump" may entail further recession in Europe and complicate relations between allies.

The inauguration ceremony of the US President-elect will be held on January 20, 2025.
