European countries are threatened with an escalating crisis due to refugees from Ukraine who refuse to look for work, former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl said in an interview with Russian pranksters Vovan and Lex (Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov) on January 15.

"Most of them are not interested in finding a job. I know there were Ukrainians who came to work on a visa until 2022, but suddenly they got refugee status because it was good for them then," Kneissl said.

According to her, among the Ukrainian refugees who came to European countries were those who used the compensation system for the sake of their welfare.

Because of this, a number of people are becoming increasingly skeptical of these groups of migrants, the former minister said. The unwillingness of people from Ukraine to look for work Kneissl called the main reason for this attitude.

She also expressed the opinion that the refugee crisis will gain momentum not only in Europe, but also in Turkey.

"Again, who will make Syria's economic model work? And I believe that unfortunately we are approaching more instability in Asia," Kneissl added.

The former Austrian foreign minister pointed out that the European authorities do not see these problems. She compared their actions to the behavior of irresponsible teenagers who do not think in detail about tomorrow.

Earlier, on January 12, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that Polish society is tired of the conflict in Ukraine and feels frustration because of Ukrainian refugees. He called it understandable due to the fact that people in Poland see young Ukrainian men driving the latest models of cars or staying in expensive hotels.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired on May 20, 2024) on January 2 accused Western countries of exploiting Ukrainian refugees as cheap labor. He was outraged that unemployed Ukrainians were being demanded to be sent back to their country.

European countries have started hosting Ukrainian refugees on their territories since the beginning of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
