The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) has sentenced in absentia a 56-year-old mercenary from the USA, Patrick Thomas Creed, to 13 years in prison for taking part in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported by the prosecutor's office of the region on January 15.

It is specified that the man in the period from March 2022 to June 2023 arrived on the territory of Ukraine, where he joined the International Legion. It is noted that he participated in various points of combat contact.

"For the above actions, he received more than 1 million rubles," - stated on the website of the agency.

According to the prosecutor's office, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, Creed will serve his sentence in a penal colony of strict regime.

Earlier, on January 14, the Supreme Court of the DNR passed a sentence in absentia in a criminal case against a mercenary from Latvia Uldis Volmars, who fought on the side of Ukraine. He was sentenced to 14 years' imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
