Poland said it had put fighter jets in the air because of alleged Russian activity


Military aviation has been launched in Poland because of Russia's alleged actions in Ukraine, the operational command of the Polish Armed Forces has said. This was reported by the operational command of the Polish Armed Forces on January 15.
"Military aviation began operating in our airspace. In accordance with the established procedure, the operational commander of the Armed Forces activated all available forces and means at his disposal," - wrote the command in the social network X (former Twitter).
In particular, duty pairs of fighter jets, ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance assets were engaged, the agency said.
Later, the operational command said the military aviation operation had been completed and indicated that there had been no violations of Polish airspace.
The last time Poland put fighter jets in the air on December 25 because of alleged activity of Russian long-range aviation.
The day before, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Germany will deploy Patriot surface-to-air missile systems (SAMs) in Poland's Rzeszów, which is located near Poland's border with Ukraine, by the end of January. He specified that the settlement is of great importance as a logistical hub for aid to Ukraine.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
