Forecaster of the Meteo forecasting center Alexander Ilyin has admitted the arrival of serious frosts in the central part of Russia, including Moscow.

In a conversation with aif.ru on January 14, the expert said that frosts should be expected in the middle of the third decade of January. During the night hours, thermometer columns may drop to -15...-20 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the forecaster noted, "so far it is only a hypothesis".

Ilyin noted that the entire winter is dominated by west-eastern transfers, carrying warm air from the Atlantic. In this regard, he said, it would be a mistake to say with a 100-percent guarantee that frost will arrive at the end of January.

The forecaster added that prolonged warm periods with abnormally warm temperatures will prevail. No significant precipitation is expected, except for the current week.

On the same day, the scientific head of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand warned of 40-degree frosts in some regions of Russia. According to him, in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, temperatures will be 5-8 degrees below normal and will be within -33...-36 degrees, reports "Moscow 24". From January 15 to 19 in the north of the SFD the temperature is predicted to be 11-16 degrees below the norm. In Taimyr is expected to cool down to -49 degrees, in Evenkia from January 15 to 17 - to -46 degrees, writes 360.ru. In Kamchatka from January 15 to 18, it will get colder to -35 ... -39 degrees, the website kp.ru specifies.

January 15 in Yakutsk students of 1-5th grades because of 40-degree frosts transferred to distance learning, reports IA Regnum.

Vilfand also noted that in Moscow since the beginning of January, the air temperature has been more than five degrees above normal.

January 13, Vilfand warned of the dangers of baptismal bathing. In a conversation with NSN specialist said that the January weather in the capital in terms of temperature is more similar to April, so the ice has not formed even in small reservoirs near Moscow. Its thickness rarely exceeds 8-10 cm. This is not enough to equip the usual swimming pools.
