Russian forward of the Pittsburgh Penguins Evgeni Malkin became a victim of robbery in the United States. This was reported by CBS News on January 15.

It is specified that robbers broke into Malkin's home in Sewickley Heights on January 11 and stole three championship rings for winning the Stanley Cup of the National Hockey League (NHL) in 2009, 2016 and 2017.

When the athlete arrived home, he discovered that the alarm system and cameras had been disabled at the time of the incident and the safe was open.

"The 911 call about the break-in came hours after the Penguins' game against the Ottawa Senators, which was played at 4 p.m. Saturday," the publication stated.

The NHL club Pittsburgh Penguins also issued a statement on the burglary of the home of the Russian forward. There noted that they will not disclose the details of the incident, as the investigation is ongoing.

"Malkin has asked that his privacy be respected during this time and we will not comment further on the matter," the club quoted journalist Jennifer Borrasso as saying on social network X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier, on August 1, 2024, cyclists of the Slovak national team were victims of a robbery at the Olympic Village in Saint-Denis. The intruders stole ten tires, spare parts and several gear shifters worth about €2300. The team's coach filed a complaint at the front base of the city's commissariat.
