Ukrainian intelligence offered Russian military to leave positions in Horlivka for $1 mln

The Ukrainian military intelligence offered Russian servicemen to leave their positions in Horlivka in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) for $1m. This was reported by the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) on 15 January.

It is noted that back in the fall of 2023, the FSB received information about attempts by Ukrainian intelligence to make contact with Russian servicemen defending positions near the Gagarin mine near Horlivka.

"The aspirations of the GUR (Main Intelligence Directorate. - Ed.) of the IOU were timely detected by the military counterintelligence of the FSB of Russia and transferred to controlled conditions. Received $100 thousand paid by Ukrainian military intelligence as an advance payment," the agency said in a statement.

The FSB noted that in the course of operational activities the areas of concentration of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) were uncovered. Russian army units preemptively launched missile and artillery strikes on the detected routes, along which Ukrainian militants tried to move to the positions of the Russian military. The enemy suffered losses of personnel and materiel.

The funds received during the counterintelligence operation were used to purchase various materiel needed by the Russian units taking part in the special operation to defend Donbas.

Earlier, on January 9, employees of the Russian Federal Security Service's department in Kherson region suppressed the activities of a local 18-year-old resident, who collected information about the locations of the Russian Armed Forces (AF) on the territory of the region and passed it to a handler from the Ukrainian paramilitary formation. It is specified that the suspect committed this crime in April 2023. A criminal case under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("High Treason") has been opened against the girl, she faces a penalty of imprisonment for up to 20 years.
