Servicemen of the reconnaissance unit of the Vostok group of troops have shown trophy weapons abandoned by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) militants during their retreat from firing positions near the village of Velyka Novoselka in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 15.

According to the ministry, during the active offensive of the Russian Armed Forces (AF) units in the South Donetsk direction, the enemy is suffering serious losses of personnel, abandoning positions and leaving western weapons. For example, Russian fighters found a portable Javelin anti-tank missile launcher, an American Browning M2 large-caliber machine gun, hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers, as well as ammunition.

"The enemy often retreats and abandons positions, as a rule, they leave grenade launchers, ammunition, weapons and so on at the positions," said a serviceman of the reconnaissance unit.

Earlier, on November 23, units of the Guards Airborne Assault Don Cossack Regiment from Feodosia captured a Western-made Mastiff armored vehicle. AFU fighters on armored vehicles ran into the regiment's positions. Crimean paratroopers, in turn, stopped the enemy's advance by ambushing them, after which they defeated the enemy, destroyed a large number of AFU personnel and equipment and seized the armored vehicle.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
