Russian servicemen of the 1st Motorized Rifle Brigade of the "North" group of troops have told Izvestiya about their work in the Rylya region in the Special Military Operation (SMO) zone.

According to them, there is currently fighting in Sumy region, which is a few kilometers from the brigade's positions, and drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) often fly in from there. That said, some local residents still refuse to leave their homes.

"We are moving to the line of combat contact. The direction is Rylya. The site is extremely dangerous with very abundant and extensive exposure to FPV drones. There aren't many locals there, but there are some left. They have cars, too. And, in principle, on them the arrival is not uncommon. The local population is strong in spirit, they have long been accustomed to this kind of relationship," said a military man of the motorized rifle brigade with the call sign Borey.

During the rotation, the fighters have to run in to their positions as they move along roads running along the fields.

"It's open terrain. Here, of course, everything is viewed from all sides. Otherwise there is no way to move at all," explained Izvestia correspondent Alexander Fedorchak.

He added that the drone detector "beeps non-stop" and constantly shows FPV drones.

Right now, the Russian military is most in need of night binoculars with thermal imaging cameras and means of fighting drones. All this is delivered to the front line by "People's Front" volunteers.

"Our guys need them badly and will help a lot when carrying out their combat tasks. Especially at night. The drone detector "Shadow" has proven itself in these conditions. In principle, it tracks all types of UAVs and warns servicemen. We feel calm with this device," said a fighter of the motorized rifle brigade with the call sign Borey.

Earlier, on January 13, fighters of the Volga Cossack artillery regiment told about their work to drive the AFU fighters out of Chasov Yar in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). Russian scouts identify the target, calculate the coordinates and time for the strike in the command center, and then the artillerymen deploy the D-20 cannon and support the attackers with fire.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
