- Zakharova assessed the Moldovan Foreign Minister's refusal to comment on her statements

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has assessed Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi's refusal to comment on her statements, saying that he "has nothing to say". She said this on January 14 in her Telegram channel.
Earlier, Popşoi said that he would no longer comment on the words of the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson because Zakharova allegedly "does not represent diplomacy." He also added that any accusation she makes against Moldova is "an element of propaganda."
"First of all, I do not represent abstract diplomacy, but diplomacy based on truth. Behind every word said on the situation in Moldova there are figures, facts, direct quotes. If it were otherwise, Popşoi could have refuted our arguments. But as it is, he just signed that he has nothing to say," she said and added that his comments on the situation in Moldova were a response to Russophobic rhetoric.
Zakharova also urged Moldovan officials to stop anti-Russian rhetoric, which is based on lies and hatred.
Earlier, on January 8, Zakharova called the blocking of gas supplies to Transnistria a harassment and neo-Nazism. According to her, the root of the problem is "neo-Nazi attitudes."
Last November, Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said that Transnistria could face energy difficulties from January 1 if Russia's Gazprom stops supplying gas. He noted that the country needs help from foreign partners. Later, an economic state of emergency was declared in Transnistria due to the difficult situation in the energy sector.
On January 1, 2025, Gazprom stopped supplying fuel to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system. The state corporation said that this happened due to Ukraine's refusal to extend the agreements. After that, on January 3, the president of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR), Vadym Krasnoselsky, said that 1.5 thousand multi-storey and 72 thousand private houses in Transnistria were left without heat and gas.
Back in August 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term of office expired in May 2024) said that Kiev would not extend the gas transit agreement with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out that Moscow was not giving up gas supplies through Ukrainian territory.
