Reuters reported on the preparation of a bill in the U.S. to buy Greenland

Representatives of the Republican Party in the U.S. House of Representatives have put forward a bill to authorize negotiations on the purchase of Greenland. This was reported by Reuters on January 13.
According to sources of the agency, the elected American President Donald Trump is considering the use of military or economic force to convince Denmark to transfer Greenland to the United States. It is noted that Trump plans to start negotiations immediately after taking office on January 20.
The bill is called the "Make Greenland Great Again Act" ("Make Greenland Great Again Act"). It states that the President must transmit to the relevant congressional committees an agreement no later than five calendar days after reaching agreements with Denmark.
Earlier, on January 13, Greenlandic Prime Minister Muthe Egede said that Greenland is in the center of the world's attention after the statement of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump that the United States will take control of the island. He said only the citizens of Greenland should have control over the island and choose their future.
On Jan. 10, Egede pointed out that Greenland is part of the North American continent and the U.S. sees it as a kind of "backyard" where the entire continent will be protected.
That same day, Trump posted a video on the social media network Truth Social of Greenlanders asking him to buy the island. In the video, some of the islanders are wearing MAGA caps and answering questions. The video was shot by a group of the politician's son who had previously visited the island. It was later reported that more than half of the population of Greenland, according to a poll, are in favor of the island joining the United States.
Before that, on December 22, 2024, Trump, announcing the appointment of an ambassador to Denmark, stressed that for the United States "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity". The American politician expressed interest in buying Greenland from Denmark in 2019 as well, then he was rejected.
