Zelensky imposed sanctions against 140 entities in Russia's financial sector

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose powers expired on May 20, 2024, said on January 13 that he had signed a decree imposing sanctions against 140 entities in Russia's financial sector.
"Signed today the documents on sanctions. Decree on imposing sanctions against the financial sector of Russia. 140 different subjects," - said in a statement Zelensky, published on the page in the social network X (former Twitter).
Zelensky specified that Ukraine will continue to work together with its partners on the issue of sanctions pressure on Russia.
The Ukrainian president also added that another document was signed, according to which criminal liability will be introduced for attempts to circumvent the sanctions.
Earlier, on January 10, American political scientist Malek Dudakov said that US President-elect Donald Trump may lift some of the anti-Russian sanctions in case of successful negotiations with Moscow.
On January 9, Reuters, citing an unnamed official, reported that US President Joe Biden may announce a new package of anti-Russian sanctions this week. There are no details yet, but the new list of restrictions is supposedly needed to strengthen Ukraine's negotiating position.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on November 7 that the volume of Western anti-Russian sanctions is unparalleled in history, but they have not dealt Russia "a crushing blow from which it will not be able to recover." He emphasized that in fact the Russian Federation is needed by the world, and any decisions either in Washington or Brussels cannot affect this.
Western countries increased sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
