On January 14, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on the exploits of Russian army servicemen in the zone of the special military operation (SMO).

The ministry drew attention to the merits of Sergeant Daniil Chekalin, who as part of a motorized rifle unit carried out a combat mission to hold the lines in an important tactical area.

While conducting surveillance in his area of responsibility, Chekalin timely detected a sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) moving towards Russian positions. He then reported this to the unit commander via communications and hit the enemy machine gunner with his first shots.

Then, during the battle, the serviceman restrained the actions of the enemy group, depriving it of the possibility of further advancement. He personally destroyed most of the saboteurs and held the occupied line until reinforcements arrived. Thanks to Chekalin's actions, the Russian servicemen managed to repel several attacks of Ukrainian militants at the entrusted defense line, preserve their positions and prevent a breakthrough of the defense in an important direction.

The Defense Ministry also noted the actions of Chief Warrant Officer Vasily Skorobagatov. He, commanding a repair platoon, carried out tasks to restore weapons and military special equipment that had been damaged.

Skorobagatov evacuated equipment from the battlefield under enemy fire, delivered it to assembly points and stationary repair shops, and then provided repair, replacement of units and assemblies in the field. More than 20 armored vehicles of various types were repaired after being damaged during combat operations under the serviceman's leadership and personal participation.

Earlier, on January 13, the Defense Ministry reported that Private Kirill Yakovlev, operating an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), destroyed an AFU firing point. The serviceman determined the coordinates of the Ukrainian machine gun crew, prepared an attack drone and directed it to the specified point. Having carried out several ammunition drops from the drone, the operator determined that the enemy firing point had been destroyed.

On the same day, crews of T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks of the All-Russian Army of the "West" group of forces hit platoon strongholds, ammunition depots and AFU manpower in the special operation zone. After that, the tankers immediately drove into the so-called sump, where the enemy cannot track down their parking lot, and then moved out for another combat mission.

The special operation to defend Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
