Greenland's prime minister recognizes Russia's global role in the world

Greenland recognizes Russia's global role but does not support Moscow 's position on Ukraine. This was stated by Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede on Monday, January 13.
So the politician responded to a question about whether the island's government is ready to strengthen cooperation with the Russian Federation.
"Greenland has issued a very clear statement condemning Russia's actions in Ukraine. However, we recognize Russia's global role in the international arena," he said, answering a question from a RIA Novosti correspondent.
Earlier during a press conference, Egede said that Greenland was in the center of the world's attention after US President-elect Donald Trump's statement that the United States would take control of the island and could benefit from it. According to the politician, powerful nations are knocking on the doors of the Arctic.
On January 10, Trump posted a video on social network Truth Social of Greenlanders asking him to buy the island. Reacting to this, Danish media said that the participants of the video are socially vulnerable citizens. It was later reported that more than half of Greenland's population, according to a poll, is in favor of the island joining the US.
Trump said that for the United States "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity", on December 22, 2024, announcing the appointment of an ambassador to Denmark. Prior to that, the U.S. politician had expressed interest in buying Greenland from Denmark in 2019, but was turned down. In the coming year, Trump was also indicated that the island is not for sale and will not be sold, but Denmark can cooperate more with the United States.
