A pro-Palestinian activist accused German Chancellor Olaf Scholz of involvement in the deaths in the Gaza Strip during his speech in Bielefeld. German magazine Der Spiegel reported on January 13.

"At a gala event in Bielefeld, a woman interfered with the chancellor's speech. The activist loudly accused Scholz of having his 'hands stained with blood' in connection with the Middle East conflict," the publication said."

A second activist filmed what was happening on his phone, the publication said.

Scholz demanded that the activist stop shouting, after which law enforcers took her out of the hall.

Earlier, on November 22, 2024, the leader of the party "Union of Sarah Wagenknecht - for reason and justice" Sarah Wagenknecht said that the arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), is a slap in the face to Scholz and the head of the German Foreign Ministry Annalena Berbock.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, when Hamas launched a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel, as well as invading border areas in the south and taking hostages. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes against targets in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinians seek to return the borders between the two countries to the lines that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War. Palestine wants to establish its own state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and make East Jerusalem its capital. Israel refuses to accept the conditions.
