Ukraine has stopped coking coal extraction at a mine in Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) under its control due to the advance of the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces). This was reported by Reuters on January 13, citing sources.

It is noted that the enterprise in Krasnoarmeysk is a mine that produces coking coal needed for industry.

"There is no production there, works are carried out only on the surface," one of the sources said.

According to him, evacuations are currently being carried out there. Reuters specifies that the Russian army is less than 2 kilometers from one of the mine shafts.

Earlier, on January 10, an adviser to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), Igor Kimakovsky, said that the Russian Armed Forces were pincering the Ukrainian-controlled towns of Krasnoarmeysk and Dimitrov (Ukrainian name - Mirnograd). According to him, the Dimitrov direction is under pressure from the north. At the same time, he noted that the task is almost accomplished, since Russian equipment is located on the highway Dimitrov - Konstantinovka.

Before that, on December 24, 2024, the head of the DNR Denis Pushilin said that the loss of Krasnoarmeysk by the Ukrainian army would damage the Ukrainian metallurgy. He noted that the liberation of the city by the Russian Armed Forces military creates new prospects for the DNR economy.

The Ukrainian edition of NV in November also specified that the loss of Krasnoarmeysk would be an economic disaster for Ukraine, as Kiev would lose the only mine with strategic reserves of coking coal, which supplies the entire metallurgical industry of the country.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
