- Political analyst points to US attempt to frustrate Ankara and Moscow with AFU attack on gas pipeline

The USA and the UK are behind the attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline station. This is how Western countries tried to spoil relations between Moscow and Ankara. This was stated by Turkish political scientist Onur Sinan Güzantal in a conversation with Izvestia on January 13.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that on January 11 Ukraine tried to attack with nine drones a compressor station in the Krasnodar region, through which gas is supplied through the "Turkish Stream". The ministry stressed that Russian air defense forces shot down all the drones.
"I believe that the US "deep state" as well as the British side are behind these attacks, and I am sure that this is a big attack on Turkish-Russian relations. They have already attacked Nord Stream to provoke negative Russian-European relations. And I think that now they are trying to do the same against Turkish-Russian relations so that Turkey condemns Russia," the political analyst commented.
In his opinion, the Turkish government realizes that this provocation was committed before the likely negotiations between US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The expert admitted that Ankara will issue a condemnation of the attack.
"Now the energy problem is the number one problem in the whole world. And of course, for Turkey, Russian gas plays a very important role. In addition, these gas pipelines are important for the European side as well. I mean, now the passage of gas from Russia to Ukraine to Europe is blocked, so now Europe suffers. So those who provoke this gas issue in Ukraine are trying to provoke the same issue between Turkey and Russia. But the main target will be Europe," summarized the interlocutor of the publication.
Also on Monday, Turkish political analyst Mehmet Perincek told Izvestia that the AFU attack on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline station was expected, as Kiev and Washington had openly stated plans to prevent its operation.
For his part, Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Minister Péter Szijjártó noted that the pipeline ensures natural gas supplies to his country and other Central European states and condemned the attempted attack.
In addition, Alexei Zhuravlev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma's defense committee, told Izvestia that he admits that Kiev will continue to try to harm Turkish Stream because it does not care about the likely consequences of the accident for the EU countries.
Before that, on November 20, 2024, the German magazine Der Spiegel, citing sources, reported that former AFU commander-in-chief Valeriy Zaluzhny proposed, in addition to the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 pipelines, to blow up the Turkish Stream in the Black Sea, but the operation failed.
