Moldova will face electricity shortages for the first time since the beginning of the crisis. It failed to reserve enough energy. This was reported on January 13 by Energocom in the social network Facebook (owned by Meta, an organization banned and recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

It is reported that due to the shortage of energy, the country is forced to urgently purchase electricity to cover all costs. The purchases will be made from 16:00 local time (17:00 Moscow time) to 19:00 local time (20:00 Moscow time) on January 14.

It is specified that the company is actively urging citizens to reduce electricity consumption.

On January 13, former Prime Minister and leader of the opposition party "Future of Moldova" Vasil Tarlev said that the energy sector of Moldova was destabilized artificially. In Tarlev's opinion, the results of the rule of the current Moldovan authorities are the inflated prices for all goods and services, especially for electricity and gas.

Earlier, on January 10, Ilan Shor, chairman of the Moldovan opposition bloc Victory, said that gas compensation payments had started in some Moldovan districts. He criticized President Maia Sandu and the country's government, calling them responsible for the energy crisis.

Since January 1, 2025 , Gazprom has stopped supplying fuel to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system due to Kiev's refusal to extend the transit agreement. Also, gas stopped flowing due to Moldova's unpaid debts, which Chisinau does not recognize.
