French military reveals submarine base data via fitness app

Employees of the French Navy accidentally disclosed through a fitness application secret data on the duty of nuclear submarines with strategic nuclear weapons. This was reported by the newspaper Le Monde on January 13.

"Our investigation shows that several submariners inadvertently disclosed information on the Internet about the patrol tempo of SNLE (nuclear submarines with third-generation ballistic missiles. - Ed.)," the publication says.

It is specified that the discovery of data is associated with the use of the application Strava, which allows you to record and publish on the Internet sports results.

For the most part, the secret information allows you to find out the schedule of the military base on the island of Ile Long in the harbor of Brest in western France and calculate the schedule of duty of nuclear submarines. According to the newspaper, most of the military signed their names in the profiles and left them open.

It is noted that thanks to the routes of jogging along the closed pier can determine the places of mooring of submarines, while the lack of activity indicated the time of combat duty. At the same time, one of the military wrote in justification for the lack of publications that it was "hard to recover from more than 2.5 months in a box", accompanying the message with an emoji of a diving mask and bubbles.

Le Monde, among others, recalled a similar investigation in 2018, when a similar leak was revealed on a scaled-down scale.
