Relations with the United States will evolve after American President-elect Donald Trump comes to power. This was stated by Indian Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar at a press conference during his visit to Spain on January 13.

"We have actually seen very strong growth in various areas of India-US relations. Based on this experience and the close contacts between President Trump and [Indian Prime Minister Narendra] Modi, we are confident that our relationship will continue to grow," he said. The event was broadcast on Jaishankar's social media page X (formerly Twitter).

The Indian minister also reminded that he will represent the country's government at Trump's inauguration ceremony on January 20.

Earlier, on January 3, Reuters reported that Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said at a press conference during a visit to Switzerland that the country was looking forward to strengthening economic relations with the United States by engaging with the new Trump administration.

The election for the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5 last year. In the popular vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%.

Trump's inauguration ceremony will take place on January 20, 2025.
