F-35 fighter jets from the base in Greenland will not be able to fly to Russia. This was reported by Military Watch Magazine (MWM) on January 11.

The publication writes that Greenland is located about 3.8 thousand kilometers from the Russian border, while the combat radius of the F-35 is only about 1 thousand kilometers. Even fighters with a longer range have a combat radius of less than 2,000 kilometers, which makes them insufficient to reach Russia's borders.

It is specified that the use of F-35 fighters often involves refueling in the air.

On January 10, Russian Ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin said that the United States is creating an airfield infrastructure in Greenland for the F-35 at the U.S. Pituffik military-space base. According to the diplomat, F-35 fighter jets have already used the base's airfield during US Air Force exercises. However, he also pointed to the presence of the U.S. military on the territory of Greenland since World War II.

Earlier, on January 9, Barbin called US President-elect Donald Trump's words about Greenland taken into account by Moscow. According to Barbin, Russian Federation is making efforts to strengthen stability in the Arctic.

On January 8, media reported on Trump's desire to establish control over Greenland to send a "strong signal" to Beijing.
