Participants of the Summer Olympics in Paris, which took place from July 26 to August 11, returned more than 100 spoiled medals to the organizing committee of the tournament. This was reported by the January 13 edition of La Lettre.

"More than 100 defective medals returned athletes to the organizing committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris," - stated in the report.

It is noted that after the mass complaints of athletes were dismissed three employees of the mint, who were responsible for the production of prize medals.

In addition, it is reported that the defects were associated with the use of a special varnish, which was applied to the awards.

Earlier, on December 30, 2024, Clément Secchi and Yohann Ndoye Brouard, who won bronze in the integrated swimming relay at the 2024 Olympic Games, posted photos of their shabby Olympic medals on social media.

Before that, on August 12, State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev noted that the completed summer Olympics in Paris was one of the worst in history. The parliamentarian criticized the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games, insufficient preparation of the Seine River for the performance of athletes in water sports, as well as the conditions of accommodation of the athletes themselves in the Olympic Village.
