The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are shelling the Korenevsky district of Kursk Region, local residents are in danger due to open fighting. A resident of the region who moved to a safe place told a representative of the Military Investigation Directorate on January 13.

"The move was facilitated by the fact that shelling began. My wife, relatives are from Korenevsky district, where very heavy shelling has already started, where the [AFU] have already entered. My friends and acquaintances called and said that they (Ukrainian military. - Ed.) are already coming in, there is open fighting on this territory. In connection with this I had to pack up and go," he said.

Earlier in the day, Alexander Khinshtein, acting governor of the region, said that two civilians in the border area of Kursk region received moderate injuries as a result of an attack by the AFU. He specified that the militants attacked a civilian car in the Belovo district with the help of a drone on the road between the village of Belitsa and the village of Giryi.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6 last year. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
