Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian leader Massoud Pezeshkian will hold talks on January 17. This was reported in the press service of the Kremlin.

"On January 17, Vladimir Putin will hold talks with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, who will arrive in Russia on an official visit," the Kremlin said in a January 13 message in its Telegram channel.

During the talks, the sides are expected to discuss prospects for further expansion of bilateral cooperation, including in trade and investment, transportation and logistics and humanitarian spheres. In addition, issues of regional and international agenda will be considered.

Also, after the talks, the two leaders will sign a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran.

The fact that Pezeshkian will visit Russia on January 17 to sign the strategic partnership treaty on December 27, 2024 was reported to Izvestia by a high-ranking source in the Islamic Republic's government.

Prior to that, on December 23 last year, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev, at a meeting with the Iranian president, handed him an invitation from Putin to pay an official visit to Russia "in the first days of 2025."

In late October, the Russian and Iranian presidents met at the BRICS summit in Kazan. Putin said at the time that the states' ties were on the rise and were friendly, and that the first trip to Russia by the president of the Islamic republic since he took office was symbolic. At their previous meeting the same month, the Russian leader said he was also expecting Pezeshkian to pay an official visit to Russia.
