The United States is imposing new restrictions on the export of artificial intelligence (AI) chips and models in order to protect the country's interests and national security. This is reported on January 13 on the White House website.

"Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a centerpiece of both security and economic strength. The United States must act decisively to lead this transition to ensure that American technology underpins the global use of AI and that adversaries cannot easily misuse advanced AI," the message indicated.

It is noted that in order to strengthen national security, it is important that the country does not take this critical technology overseas and that global AI operates on "American rails."

According to the regulations, the US will be able to supply semiconductors and AI technology to 18 countries for allies and partners. In addition, Washington will impose a quota on the supply of AI technologies, as well as a license requirement for companies and organizations that are located outside allied and partner nations.

However, with regard to some countries, the US is imposing restrictions on the transfer of more powerful AI models and a ban on the supply of advanced chips to these countries. These include Russia, China, Belarus, Afghanistan, DPRK, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cuba, DRC, Eritrea, DRC, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Somalia, South Sudan, CAR, Syria, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, and Zimbabwe.

Earlier, on December 31, 2024, it became known that hackers linked to China allegedly attacked the electronic systems of the U.S. Treasury Department. The New York Times indicated that the Treasury Department was notified of the attack by BeyondTrust. The hacker could gain access to remote workstations of the Ministry of Finance and documents stored there. According to the ministry, it cooperated with the FBI in the investigation of the attack.
