Court keeps Gribov, former deputy education minister, in custody

On January 13, Moscow City Court on January 13 recognized the arrest of former Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Denis Gribov in the case of embezzlement of 54 million rubles as lawful.

"The ruling of the Tverskoy court of Moscow to leave unchanged, the appeal - without satisfaction," - said the judge. His words are quoted by TASS.

The defense side of the ex-deputy Minister insisted on changing the measure of restraint to one that does not imply imprisonment. The lawyer also noted that Gribov did not hide from the investigation when he was in Belarus on a personal trip.

"I had no intention to hide from the investigation," said the defendant in court.

Gribov was detained at one of the capital's airports on December 21. According to the investigation, he and his accomplices stole 54 million rubles from budget funds. Law enforcement agencies also detained three more participants in the crime, they were charged.

The same day he was arrested. The former deputy minister is charged under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on a large scale").

Gribov held the post of Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation from March 2020 to August 2024. Prior to that, he held the positions of deputy head of department of the Financial University and advisor to the head of Rosobrnadzor.
