CNN reported an indefinite pause in Kiev's thinking on "return of territories"
In Ukraine, the issue concerning the "return of territories" has been put on indefinite pause. This was reported by the CNN television channel on January 13.
The publication noted that a week before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, Ukraine is preparing for the fact that the country will have to make difficult decisions in the coming months. The authors of the article pointed out that Ukrainian troops are retreating in several parts of the battle line, they lack experienced military personnel and they doubt that military aid will continue to arrive in the same volumes as at the moment.
"In Kiev, the government is waiting and watching for signals from Moscow and Washington and states almost daily that it wants a "just peace." Any thought of 'return of territories' <...> is postponed indefinitely," the article said.
On the eve of the American president-elect's national security adviser Mike Waltz said that Trump considers it impossible to resolve the conflict in Ukraine without dialog with Russia. He added that the dialog with Russia will be established within the next few months. Waltz also clarified that the American leader-elect considers it impossible to "oust" Russia from all former Ukrainian territories. According to him, this reality is beginning to be recognized by the whole world.
Mikhail Sheremet, a Duma deputy from the Crimean region and a member of the security committee, called Trump's position on the unrealism of talking about "forcing" Russia out of all former Ukrainian territories, including Crimea, sensible.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
