Blackouts in Germany will continue because the country is a net importer of French nuclear power and has the highest prices in the world in the energy sector, Alice Weidel, chairwoman and chancellor candidate of the Alternative for Germany (AdG), said on January 12.

"Blackouts in Germany will happen like this because we are a net importer of French nuclear power and have the highest electricity prices in the world. An industrial country cannot exist like this," she said in an interview with ZDF television.

The politician also added that Germany has closed its nuclear power plants and wind and solar energy cannot cover the country's needs.

"Wind and solar power are unstable sources of energy, because they do not function when the wind is not blowing and the sun is not shining. Germany has shut down its nuclear power plants, and nuclear power plants are the most energy efficient and their carbon footprint is zero," Weidel added.

Earlier, on January 11, Weidel, during a speech at the AdG congress, promised to restore the operation of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines if she is elected to head the government. According to her, the party intends to abandon the climate policy of the European Union and demolish all wind farms.

Before that, on January 3, Vice Chancellor, Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany, candidate for Chancellor from the Green Party Robert Habeck said that Germany has not had economic growth since 2018. At the moment, the country is in a structural crisis, the politician admitted.
