More than 50% of Greenlanders polled supported joining the U.S.

More than half of the population of Greenland are in favor of the island's accession to the United States. This follows from the data of a survey published on January 13 Patriot Polling.
The survey was conducted from January 6 to 11, it involved 416 Greenlanders.
According to the results of the poll, 57.3% of respondents were in favor of joining the United States, while 37.4% were against. In addition, 5.3% of the survey participants found it difficult to answer the question.
Earlier on January 10, Greenlandic Prime Minister Muthe Bowrup Egede said that Greenland is part of the North American continent, the U.S. sees it as a kind of backyard where the entire continent will be protected. He said the Self-Government Act actually gives the island the ability to become independent when needed at a certain point.
On the same day, US President-elect Donald Trump published a video on the social network Truth Social where Greenlanders are asking him to buy the island. In the video, some of the islanders are wearing MAGA caps and answering questions. The video was shot by a group of the politician's son, who had previously visited the island.
Reacting to this, Danish media said that the participants in the video are vulnerable citizens bribed with a hotel dinner. It was reported that one of the locals was an eyewitness to the Trump team's attempts to persuade Greenlanders to praise the president-elect on camera.
The American leader-elect said on December 22, 2024, that for the United States "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity", announcing the appointment of an ambassador to Denmark. The politician had previously expressed interest in buying Greenland from Denmark in 2019, but was turned down.
