Many countries are offering their venues for a meeting between US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, but it is premature to say which one will be chosen. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this on January 13 in response to a question from Izvestia.

"Many countries offer their services as countries where hypothetical contacts can be held, but it is premature to talk about this yet. There are no substantive preparations so far," Peskov said.

He added that the political will is present for a meeting between Putin and Trump. In addition, there is also an understanding that such contacts are necessary and appropriate. At the same time, the specifics will be considered after the administration in Washington officially changes.

Earlier, on January 12, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic suggested holding a meeting between Putin and the U.S. president-elect in the Balkan republic. He explained that Serbia is suitable to become such a venue because it is an independent country - it is neither a member of NATO nor the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

At the same time, the Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed that this country is also ready to become a venue for a meeting between Trump and Putin, but there have been no contacts on this topic yet.

On the same day, the US President-elect's national security adviser Michael Waltz indicated that Trump was preparing to hold talks with the Russian leader. According to the adviser, on this topic in the coming days or weeks there will be a telephone conversation to discuss the exact format of the meeting.

Trump himself announcedabout the preparation of a meeting with the Russian president on January 9 at his residence in Mar-a-Lago (Florida) before a meeting with governors. The American leader-elect added that he plans to hold all meetings after the inauguration on January 20. In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on January 10 that Russia does not have certain conditions for negotiations with the United States.
