A criminal case has been opened against Paraguayan military officer Lugo Jimenez, who took part in the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the territory of Kursk Region. This was reported on January 13 in the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia.
"The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in respect of a citizen of the Republic of Paraguay Jorge Adrian Lugo Jimenez initiated a criminal case. He is suspected in absentia of committing a terrorist act (paragraphs "a", "v" of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and mercenarism (part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)," reads the report published in the Telegram-channel.
The investigation established his participation in the conflict as a mercenary on the territory of the Russian Federation. According to the IC, Jimenez illegally crossed the border in December 2024 and committed crimes against civilians, he was armed with automatic weapons and explosive devices.
The investigation is establishing the whereabouts of the Paraguayan military officer.
"In the course of the investigation will be established all the circumstances of the specified crimes and given a criminal-legal assessment of his actions", - stated in the message.
Earlier, on January 10, the IC opened a criminal case on committing a terrorist act (pts. "a", "v" part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and mercenarism (part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) against a citizen of Paraguay Christian Rodrigo Carvallo. According to the investigation, in October 2024, he, using AFU equipment, invaded the territory of Kursk region and attacked civilians. Investigative actions to catch the perpetrator and clarify all the circumstances of the case are ongoing.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
