Media pointed to EU concerns over Trump-Putin talks on Ukraine

The European Union (EU) has expressed fears that US President-elect Donald Trump will be set to negotiate with Russian leader Vladimir Putin "over the heads of the Europeans" on the issue of the Ukrainian conflict. Euractiv reported on January 13 that.
"Europeans want to guarantee a seat at the table of any future peace talks on Ukraine, but they risk getting only a folding chair," the publication stated.
At the same time, as the publication notes, there has been no discussion of the goals that its members want to achieve in possible future negotiations.
Earlier, on January 10, Trump announced the preparation of a meeting with Putin. He specified that all discussions will take place after his inauguration on January 20.
Before that, on December 7, Trump called the "fiasco" of American President Joe Biden the cause of the conflict in Ukraine. The Republican assured that his team knows how to act in the context of this crisis.
Putin, in turn, told reporters on December 26, 2024, that Russia intends to end the conflict in Ukraine, not just freeze it.
Trump's team said on Dec. 13 that it was in talks with Ukrainian officials and the current White House administration to resolve the conflict. Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, then also allowed for the end of this crisis in the coming months.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
