Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on January 13 set up a government commission to eliminate the consequences of the oil product spill in the Kerch Strait.

"By order of the President, a government commission has been formed, which will coordinate the work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency situation associated with the spill of oil products as a result of the tanker crash in the Kerch Strait," - stated in the message of the Russian government in Telegram-channel.

It is noted that the commission was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev. The commission also includes the head of the Ministry of Nature Alexander Kozlov, the head of the Ministry of Transport Roman Starovoit, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, representatives of other departments and regions.

Mishustin pointed out the importance of the early restoration of the ecological system of the Black Sea coast, Krasnodar Krai and the Republic of Crimea. He noted the need to clean the water area from pollution and the inadmissibility of new leaks of oil products. Prime Minister instructed Kurenkov to constantly monitor the progress of these works.

The head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova will control the constant monitoring of air quality and water samples from the Kerch Strait and drinking water sources. In addition, the Minister of Nature will soon submit proposals to the President to eliminate the consequences, taking into account the increase in water temperature in the Black Sea. The head of Rosprirodnadzor Svetlana Radionova will deal with a comprehensive assessment of environmental damage for its full compensation by the guilty party.

In addition, the government press service indicated that the head of the Ministry of Transport Roman Starovoit will work out plans for lifting the wrecked tankers.

"It is important to significantly increase the efficiency of work, while we need to attract additional material, human resources and, very importantly, to attract science here," the government press service quotes Mishustin as saying.

The day before, Kurenkov reported that oil products from the damaged part of the tanker "Volgoneft-239", which continue to leak out near the village of Volna in the urban district of Anapa, should be pumped out within 24 hours.

On the same day, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations during an operational meeting in Anapa said that currently there is a difficult situation near the port of Taman, where fuel oil continues to flow out of the damaged part of the tanker "Volgoneft-239". Kurenkov noted that it is necessary to eliminate the leak as soon as possible and pump out fuel oil from the aft part of the tanker. He added that at the same time it is necessary to organize access to the tanker from the port side. All the necessary calculations have already been made.
