Fires in California have killed at least 24 people. This was reported by ABC News on January 12, citing a tally by the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner's Office of the Medical Examiner.

"At least 24 people are believed to have died and more than a dozen others remain missing," informed the TV station.

It is specified that thousands of firefighters are fighting several large wildfires in an area of 45 square miles (116.5 square meters) of densely populated Los Angeles County.

The TV station reminded that about 105,000 people remain under a mandatory evacuation order and another 87,000 are under an evacuation warning.

Earlier in the day Bloomberg agency said that the fire in the U.S. state of California could lead to a broken wire. The material notes that the wire was found on the tower associated with the power line Eagle Rock Sylmar. That tower is owned by Edison International.

Numerous wildfires in Los Angeles were reported on January 8. Extinguishing continues, with strong winds fueling the fire and rescue crews lacking water. In connection with the fires in the state declared a major disaster mode. The projected damage from the disaster will be about $52-57 billion. More than 12.3 thousand buildings were destroyed.

More than 1 thousand American prisoners were sent to extinguish the fire, which should contain the spread of the fire. Mexico also sent a group of firefighters to Los Angeles to fight the fire.
