Erdogan's adviser confirms his possible presidential candidacy

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be able to run for the post of head of state for the third time. Mehmet Uçum, a senior adviser to the leader, said this on January 12 on the social network X (former Twitter)
"There is a constitutional possibility (Article 116/3) for President Erdoğan to run for president. News about his running for another term may appear on the agenda in the second half of 2027," Uçum wrote.
In addition, the adviser said there is no connection between Erdogan's possible nomination and the ongoing initiatives to resolve the Kurdish issue, which some communities in Turkey believe the incumbent president could score electoral points from.
A day earlier, Turkey's leader Erdogan made it clear that he may run for president in the next presidential election.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called himself and Russian President Vladimir Putin the only remaining leaders in the world on December 8, 2024. He noted that it is his and Putin's long experience in politics that gives him and Putin a special place in solving international problems.
Before that, on October 24, the United States named Erdogan the most unconventional leader at the BRICS summit, as he is the only leader of a NATO member country to attend the event.
