FBI says China has introduced malware into U.S. infrastructure

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) believes that China has introduced malicious software (software) into the US infrastructure systems. This was stated by FBI Director Christopher Wray on CBS television on Sunday, January 12.
"China's threat in cyberspace includes not only data theft, but also the deliberate deployment of malware into U.S. civilian infrastructure to cause real damage at any time it sees fit," Ray emphasized.
Energy networks and telecommunications, as well as gas pipeline systems and power generation, were affected, he said. According to Ray, the People's Republic of China, with the help of its software, is also capable of damaging transportation and water supply. The FBI director emphasized that this could cause serious damage to the US.
Earlier, on December 31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC said that Beijing has always opposed any form of hacker attacks, as well as the spread of false information against China. This was said in a statement regarding the alleged cyberattack on the US Treasury Department.
On this day, it became known that hackers linked to China allegedly attacked the electronic systems of the U.S. Treasury Department. The New York Times indicated that the Treasury Department was notified of the attack by BeyondTrust. The hacker could gain access to remote workstations of the Ministry of Finance and documents stored there. According to the ministry, it cooperated with the FBI in the investigation of the attack.
