The State Duma called Trump's position on Crimea sensible

The position of US President-elect Donald Trump, who calls unrealistic the talk about "ousting" Russia from all former territories of Ukraine, including Crimea, is absolutely sensible. This was reported on January 12 by the Deputy of the State Duma from the Crimean region, a member of the Committee on security Mikhail Sheremet.
"Trump demonstrates a sensible position and a realistic vision of the future. A logical continuation on his part would be the recognition of the Russian status of Crimea, as well as our new regions," RIA Novosti quoted Sheremet as saying.
The MP also stressed that the Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky (term of office ended on May 20, 2024) has become an illegitimate head of state and is in no way interested in ending the conflict.
"Zelensky will create preconditions to fuel a new phase of the conflict, as his terrorist essence does not need peace for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, who were sacrificed in the name of [US President Joe] Biden's geopolitical ambitions," the parliamentarian pointed out.
Earlier, on December 12, Trump's national security adviser Michael Waltz said that Trump believes it is impossible to resolve the conflict in Ukraine without dialog with Russia. He added that the dialog with Russia will be established over the next few months. Waltz also clarified that the American leader-elect considers it impossible to "oust" Russia from all former Ukrainian territories. According to him, this reality is beginning to be recognized by the whole world.
Before that, on December 18, 2024, Zelensky admitted in an interview with the French newspaper Le Parisien that Ukraine does not have the forces to "regain" control of Donbass and Crimea. He had previously said on November 20 that Ukraine was ready to "return Crimea diplomatically" and admitted that the state lacked the ability to do so by force. He also admitted that he would not be able to reach the 1991 borders of Ukraine due to a lack of resources.
Afterward, on December 26, the head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, noted that Zelensky seemed to accept the inevitable when he finally gave up the idea of taking back Crimea and Donbass.
Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 after a referendum in which the majority of the peninsula's residents voted in favor of reunification with the Russian Federation. Kiev refuses to recognize the results of the vote and considers Crimea its territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the residents of Crimea democratically voted in favor of reunification in full compliance with international law and the question of the peninsula's belonging is closed definitively.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
