Lavrov discusses situation around Ukraine with Turkish Foreign Minister

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has discussed the situation around Ukraine with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan. This was reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on January 12.
It is specified that the foreign ministers exchanged views on international and regional issues.
"Special attention was paid to the need to prevent actions aimed at creating risks to energy security," the report says.
Fidan and Lavrov also discussed further steps to support the settlement of the conflict in Syria by organizing a dialogue with the participation of all forces of the state and external players who are able to assist in the search for agreements.
Earlier, on December 30, 2024, Lavrov said that Russia was not going to participate in the new "peace summit" of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term expired on May 20 of the same year. According to the minister, the Russian Federation has stopped following the speeches of the head of the Kiev regime, who "constantly states something".
Before that, on December 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country intends to end the conflict in Ukraine, not just freeze it. For his part, the Russian foreign minister emphasized that Moscow was open to negotiations, but the agreements should be unbreakable.
The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
