The approval rating of French President Emmanuel Macron has fallen to a six-year low. This was reported by Bloomberg agency on January 12 with reference to the results of the Ipsos poll.

"Compared to November, Macron's rating fell by two points, to 21%, and approached the lowest figure of 20% since December 2018, when the country was shaken by the "yellow vests" protests," the publication said.

Meanwhile, the French president's rating has plunged 12% since he announced snap parliamentary elections in June 2024, which led to a deeply divided National Assembly (lower house of parliament) and a political stalemate on budget planning.

In addition, new Prime Minister François Bayrou started the job with an approval rating of 20%, the lowest of all six prime ministers appointed by Macron.

According to the poll, the favorites of the French are far-right leaders Marine Le Pen (34%) and Jordane Bardella (33%).

Earlier, on January 3, the newspaper Le Figaro with reference to a social survey reported that 61% of the population of France are in favor of the resignation of the President. In total, more than 1 thousand respondents took part in the study. In addition, 62% of respondents called Macron's rule authoritarian.

On June 9, Macron announced the dissolution of the National Assembly and early elections, which was won by a coalition of left-wing parties "New Popular Front" (NFP). Following the defeat of the presidential party, former French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal resigned. Macron then admitted that the decision to dissolve the National Assembly led to more instability instead of resolving the political crisis.

In early September, Michel Barnier's government took power in the country. After about three months, the parliament passed a vote of no confidence in him, and on December 13, the 73-year-old leader of the centrist Democratic Movement party, François Bayrou, was appointed the new French prime minister.

For his part, Macron said during his address to the nation that he was not going to leave the presidency until the end of his term in 2027. He also reminded that he will not be able to run for re-election.
