Poland has not allowed the plane of the Slovak parliament delegation traveling to Moscow to fly through its airspace, closing the sky to the board. This was announced on January 12 by the Deputy Speaker of the country's Parliament Andrei Danko, while on board the airliner.

"I have learned now that Poland does not allow us a direct overflight, so we will go around through Germany. I do not understand this approach of Poland, but in any case I take it as reality", - said the politician in a video message on his page in Facebook (owned by Meta, its activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

Some time later, Danko confirmed that their plane will change its route and will proceed to Russia via the Czech Republic and Germany.

The plane of the delegation of the vice speaker of the Slovak parliament successfully landed earlier in the day at Vnukovo airport. This was reported by the representative of the Slovak delegation Peter Gašpar. Before that, on January 10, his visit was announced by the spokeswoman of the Slovak National Party, which is led by the Deputy Speaker, Zuzana Shkoptsova.

Prior to that, on January 5, the politician himself noted that he might visit Moscow in January to help restore the dialog with Russia, which was started by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo, who visited Russia in December. Danko indicated that he plans to meet personally with Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, as well as to hold ministerial meetings. According to Danko, his goal is to "open the eyes of people in Slovakia."

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Slovak prime minister held talks in the Kremlin on December 22, 2024. Fitzo described his visit to Russia as a reaction to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's (term expired May 20, 2024) announcement that he would stop the transit of Russian gas to Europe. The Ukrainian conflict was one of the topics of the meeting.

Putin later said that during his visit to Moscow, Fitzo suggested making Slovakia a negotiating platform on Ukraine. The Russian side is not against such a scenario, the head of state said.
