Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament Andrei Danko has arrived in Moscow, the official's flight has landed at Vnukovo airport. This was announced on Sunday, January 12, by the representative of the Slovak delegation Peter Gašpar.

"Just landed," - TASS quoted him as saying.

The fact that Danko intends to visit the Russian capital on Sunday was reported by Zuzana Shkoptsova, spokeswoman for the Slovak National Party, which the deputy speaker leads, on January 10.

Prior to that, on January 5, the politician himself noted that he might visit Moscow in January to help restore the dialog with Russia that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo, who visited Russia in December, started. Danko indicated that he plans to meet personally with Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, as well as conduct ministerial-level visits. According to Danko, his goal is to "open the eyes of people in Slovakia."

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Slovak prime minister held talks in the Kremlin on December 22, 2024. Fitzo described his visit to Russia as a reaction to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's (term expired May 20, 2024) announcement that he would stop the transit of Russian gas to Europe. The Ukrainian conflict was one of the topics of the meeting.

Putin later said that during his visit to Moscow, Fitzo suggested making Slovakia a negotiating platform on Ukraine. The Russian side is not against such a scenario, the head of state said.
