Ukraine links Kellogg's canceled visit to Kiev with Zelensky's speeches

A possible reason for the cancellation of the visit to Kiev by the future US special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, could be the speeches of the country's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired on 20 May 2024), in which he voiced his vision of ending the current conflict. Such a hypothesis was put forward by the Ukrainian news and analysis website Strana.ua on 12 January.
The media noted that Kellogg's visit was canceled unexpectedly, although the preparations for it had been reported long in advance and absolutely openly. In addition, it was prepared in accordance with all norms of US law, notes "Gazeta.Ru".
"According to another version, Kellogg canceled the visit after a number of statements by Zelensky on the conditions for ending the war in Ukraine, which do not coincide with the vision of [US President-elect Donald] Trump's team," the text reads.
Prior to that, on January 9, US entrepreneur Ilon Musk suggested that Trump would probably manage to quickly resolve the armed conflict in Ukraine. The businessman noted that the longer the hostilities continue, the weaker Ukraine becomes in relation to Russia.
It became known on January 7 that Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg postponed his previously announced trip to Kiev. He was supposed to arrive in the Ukrainian capital in early January, but now the visit will take place after Trump's inauguration, Reuters reported. The agency specified that it is unknown for what reason Kellogg is postponing the trip.
On December 18, 2024, it was reported that Kellogg would visit Kiev in early January. It was clarified that Kellogg does not plan to visit Moscow during his trip to Europe. Instead, he will visit top leaders in Kiev. In addition, at the moment his team is working on the organization of meetings with leaders in other European capitals.
Before that, on December 3, Kellogg's plan for a Ukrainian settlement was published. It proposes to end the political isolation of the Russian Federation and retain the liberated territories. In addition, Trump's special envoy proposed to postpone Ukraine's accession to NATO for a long time. Nevertheless, Kellogg's plan includes continuing military assistance to Kiev and providing it with security guarantees.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
