Odessa residents picketed over the dismantling of the monument to Vysotsky

A group of Odessa residents has picketed a monument to Soviet poet, actor, author and singer Vladimir Vysotskyy. This was reported by the Ukrainian edition of Public on January 12.
On the photos, which are published in the regional Telegram-channel of the edition, you can see six participants of the action.
Those who came to the pedestal took with them posters with inscriptions "Shame!" and "Restore the monument to Vysotsky!".
The monument to Vysotsky in Odessa was dismantled at the end of December 2024 by order of the authorities. It was located near the building of the Odessa Film Studio, which shot more than 260 pictures, including iconic ones.
The policy of so-called decolonization was a continuation of "decommunization" in Ukraine, which began in 2015 under the law "On Condemnation of Communist and Nazi Regimes". It prescribes demolishing monuments, dismantling memorial plaques, and renaming all topographical objects whose names are associated with the USSR or Russia. This policy became especially acute after the start of the Russian Federation's special operation to defend Donbass in February 2022.
