German MP says negative impact of JV undermining on Germany-U.S. ties

The undermining of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines has damaged relations between Germany and the United States. This statement was made on January 12 by Bundestag deputy from the faction "Alternative for Germany" (AdG) Rainer Rothfuss.
He specified that the coming to power of the elected American President Donald Trump could affect the situation.
"In foreign policy, thanks to the new Donald Trump administration and its bold and critical representatives, we see a real chance to improve German-American relations, which, in our opinion, have been seriously complicated by the situation with the undermining of Nord Streams," Rothfuss told TASS.
On the eve of the candidate for Chancellor of Germany from the "Alternative for Germany" Alice Weidel said that if elected to the post of head of the government, she promises to restore the work of the gas pipelines "Nord Stream" and "Nord Stream - 2". According to her, the AdG intends to complete the energy transformation from the European Union (EU) climate policy.
Before that, on December 24, 2024, former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl named four countries that could be involved in undermining gas pipelines. According to her, the UK, Norway and Ukraine are involved. She noted that Poland could also be added to the list.
November 30, it was reported that the German Prosecutor General's Office identified two suspects in the sabotage of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 pipelines.
November 26, Polish radio reported that experts from the Military University of Technology in Warsaw found TNT in the analysis of a water sample from the site of the explosion of gas pipelines. In this regard, Poland asked Denmark and Sweden to disclose the results of the investigation. In turn, Die Welt newspaper wrote that at least six, not four explosive devices were used in the sabotage.
In September, the German government confirmed that several arrest warrants had been issued during the investigation into the JV bombings. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the country would make every effort to investigate and called for an unbiased investigation. The Kremlin agreed with the call, but Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed to the importance of sharing information instead of leaks.
Leaks at the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines were discovered in September 2022. Two powerful underwater explosions were registered on the pipelines. Traces of explosives were found at the accident site. Russia is seeking an international investigation into the terrorist attacks. In February 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson that the CIA was responsible for the explosions.
