Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 12 congratulated employees and veterans of the prosecutor's office on their professional holiday.

"Dear comrades, distinguished veterans of the prosecutor's office, I congratulate you on your holiday, the Day of the Prosecutor's Office Employee," he announced.

The President recalled that the Russian Prosecutor's Office, established more than three centuries ago, had passed through different historical epochs, but invariably remained one of the significant substantive links of the state system.

"And today the Prosecutor's Office plays a key role in protecting the rights and freedoms of our citizens, the foundations of the constitutional order. In the development of Russia as a legal, democratic, social state. The main goal of which is to ensure a decent life and free development of every person," Putin noted.

The head of state stressed that prosecutors, thanks to their professionalism, objectivity and broad powers, help restore violated rights of citizens, protect their honest name and legitimate interests, as well as assist in the implementation of strategic plans for the country's development and long-term social programs, thus raising the authority of the agency itself in society.

"Our citizens expect from you firm, consistent and productive work. First of all, in such priority areas as the protection of labor, housing and other rights of citizens. Especially veterans, the disabled, orphaned children, families with many children," the president said.

He also drew attention that the most serious approach and constant monitoring of prosecutors requires the issue of social security of participants of the special military operation, as well as members of their families. Payments of salaries, pensions, allowances, benefits and compensation due to them must be made in strict compliance with the law - in a timely manner and in full.

"Other areas of work of the Prosecutor's Office remain no less important. I mean countering terrorism and extremism, crime and corruption, protecting the country's economic interests and the rights of entrepreneurs, as well as supporting the state prosecution in courts and environmental activities," Putin added.

According to the president, the Prosecutor General's Office and its territorial bodies should pay special attention to solving the problems of citizens in Donbass, Novorossiya, Kursk region and other regions in close proximity to the line of contact.

"It is necessary to continue work on the integration of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions into a single legal space of Russia. And, of course, to fully assist their social and economic revival," he urged.

Putin also noted the fruitful work of prosecutors to strengthen oversight of the situation in the defense-industrial complex, including planned deliveries of weapons and equipment to the troops.

"Once again, I congratulate you on this holiday. And I want to thank Russian prosecutors, veterans of the department for their conscientious attitude to the fulfillment of their duties. I am confident that Russia's prosecutor corps will continue to faithfully serve our people, fatherland and the law. I wish you and your loved ones health and success," he concluded.

On January 12, employees of the Prosecutor's Office celebrate their professional holiday in Russia. The holiday was established by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation in 1995 to emphasize the role of the prosecutor's office in maintaining the rule of law on the territory of the country. The date for it was not chosen by chance - on January 12, 1722 Peter I established the post of Prosecutor General at the Senate, whose duties included supervision over the financial statements of departments and the fight against corruption. It is this event that is considered the starting point in the history of the Russian Institute of Prosecutor's Office.

Today, the prosecutor's office plays a crucial role in law enforcement in Russia. It supervises the execution of laws by federal authorities and local self-government bodies, ensures the observance of human rights and freedoms, legal interests of citizens, and maintains the unity of the country's legal space.
